CERTIFICATE OF AN OFFICER TO THE GRADUATES
A festive ceremony dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Vazgen Sargsyan military institute took place in the morning of July 30, at the Republic Square. Here, the graduates of several military institutions of higher education in Armenia and abroad got their certificates of officers.
The religious, political and military leaders of our country had come to congratulate them. “Today we are strong – strong as ever. Our army is powerful, modern and capable of solving any problems. He has honorably passed the war and peace exam, embodying the triumphant spirit of all Armenians,” President Serzh Sargsyan stated, emphasizing the great importance of officers in the issue of army reinforcement.

BYUZAND STREET CASES IN THE EUROPEAN COURT
The European court has started the hearings of the cases of the former inhabitants of Byuzand Street. Last month the first decision reached Armenia. For infringing proprietary right, the Armenian government should either sign a reconciliation agreement with a citizen, or pay compensation. There are 14 similar cases from Yerevan in the European court.

6TH GOLDEN APRICOT IN YEREVAN
Golden Apricot international film festival is being held in Yerevan for the 6th time. The festival opened on July 12, with a ceremony of apricot blessing, followed by the demonstration of a French film called Le Premier Cercle. The guests walked on a red carpet, surrounded by cameras.
The guests were welcomed by Gaguik Beglaryan, the mayor of Yerevan; David Muradyan, a deputy minister of culture of Republic of Armenia, and Harutyun Khachatryan, the founder of Golden Apricot.
Polish director Skolimowski, Japanese Kohei Oguri, and American Rob Nilsson are among this year’s famous guests of the festival.

YEREVAN ELDERS’ COUNCIL EXTRAORDINARY SESSION
Today, at the Yerevan elders’ council extraordinary session, Taron Margaryan has been elected as the first vice mayor of Yerevan. Kamo Areyan and Vano Vardanyan were re-elected in the positions of vice mayor.
The agenda of the extraordinary session also contained issues related to the city budget, urban planning spaces, as well as issues related to the tariffs and wage charts of the employees of city administration.
The budget of Yerevan was ratified according to the annual budget formed by the former community elders’ councils. The new one will be formed next year. 2009-07-06

THE POLICE PUSHED THE DEMONSTRATORS AND JOURNALISTS
The campaign for supporting Zhamanak newspaper editor Arman Babajanyan had been planned for June 26, 12:00. There were hardly 10 participants and twice as many policemen. The police demanded to move the action to the crossroads of Baghramyan-Demirchyan. They said no actions could be conducted in front of special buildings, including the presidential office. The demonstrators claimed they were implementing their constitutional right to conduct an action of peaceful protest. The police, headed by deputy commander Valeri Osipyan, started pushing and pulling the campaign participants, as well as the journalists covering the action.

GUILTY AND FREE
On June 22, Alexander Arzumanyan, Suren Sirunyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan and Hakob Hakobyan, defendants of the March 1 case, were freed from the court room.
The court passed a guilty verdict against Alexander Arzumanyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan, Hakob Hakobyan and Suren Sirunyan, sentencing them to 5 years (4 years – for Sirunyan) of imprisonment. The amnesty, announced on June 19, was applied, and the prisoners were set free.
Their relatives, friends and supporters had arrived to welcome and support them all.
Alexander Arzumanyan, Suren Sirunyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan and Hakob Hakobyan left the court and went to the Myasnikyan monument, in order to put flowers in memory of the victims of March 1.

AMNESTY WAS ANNOUNCED
National Assembly discussed RA president Serzh Sargsyan’s suggestion and adopted a decision on announcing amnesty.
It is mentioned in the 2nd point of the amnesty text that amnesty shall affect persons sentenced to maximum five years of imprisonment “in relation to the events that happened in Yerevan on March 1-2, 2008.”
